FAPA Europe and EFTA condemn China's oppression of TibetFor immediate release Wednesday, March 19, 2007, Mainz, Germany - The Formosan Association for Public Affairs Europe (FAPA Europe) and the European Federation of Taiwanese Associations slammed the cultural genocide committed by the Chinese government in Tibet. Tibetan protestors, demonstrating their opposition to China's illegal occupation of their nation, have been arrested, murdered, and persecuted by Chinese security officials and police. "We condemn in the strongest sense, the blatant disregard of human rights by the Chinese government," stated Jenny Hsieh, Executive Director of FAPA Europe. "The Chinese government has systematically destroyed Tibetan culture and liberties for more than 50 years, and now they are intensifying their oppression against the Tibetan people." The Tibetan people, with no ethnic relation to the Han Chinese race, have seen their nation annexed, occupied, and destroyed by the Chinese government. Their basic rights and freedoms have been denied by the harsh, cruel rule of the Chinese dictatorship. "European nations must make clear their staunch opposition to these horrific violations of human rights," continued Hsieh. "They should stop kowtowing to the Chinese autocracy, and press for the liberation of Tibet." Ching-Kai Shen, Spokesperson for the European Federation of Taiwanese Associations, remarked: "Such acts betray the true nature of the Chinese government. It shows clearly the threat China poses against free, democratic nations such as Taiwan. If the European Union wants to show its commitment to democratic values, it must take concrete actions to support Taiwan and Tibet." ###
